Nell’s Adventure on the Beach

March 3, 2015

This morning Nell insisted on accompanying me on my walk along the beach, so I obliged her and took her along. It was a balmy 63 degrees out, overcast and very foggy,  but we made the most of it.  The first thing we saw when we stepped onto the sand were small holes dug into the beach.

“What are these holes for?” Nell asked pointing.

“They’re crab holes.  They come out at night and go fishing in the ocean,” I replied.

We walked along the beach a little more and she  saw a whole bunch of footprints in the sand.

“I wonder who made these footprints?” Nell mused.

“The bigger ones are made by the seagulls and the little ones are made by the sandpipers,” I explained.

“I think I’ll add my footprints to them!” Nell exclaimed and did just that.

We walked a little further down the beach and Nell found something else.

“Look! Angel wings!” she cried and pointed to a pair of sea shells still joined.  We picked them up and I put them in my pocket because Nell’s shorts don’t have pockets and of course moms get to carry everything. ;0)

Nell finally looked up from the sand and the sea shells and saw the water and the waves.  She stretched out her little arms and took in a deep breath of the salty sea air.

“It’s so very big!” she exclaimed.

We walked along for a little while longer and came upon a sand castle somebody had built the day before.  Nell walked around it and left her footprints and hand prints in sand for the builders to discover when they came back later.

Finally we got tired and turned around and made our way back to the condo.  Nell was very excited to show V and Sean all the sea shells she had found on the beach.  She was most proud of the sand dollar and the two purple barnacles we found washed up by the tide.
