First Faceups Ever!

July 26, 2013

In the last couple of months I have purchased 4 new dolls and won one in a photo contest. I’ve decided to send 3 of the 4 that I purchased to a faceup artist and try my hand at faceups on one of the purchased dolls and the kitty I won.
Four years ago, when I first got into the world of BJD’s, I bought a can of MSC with the express purpose of doing the faceup on my Pkf Ante Kaili’s sleeping plate. I chickened out! I eventually sent it off to be painted by someone who offered to do it for free because she was practicing her faceup skills. She did a great job with it and I was very pleased with the results. So, my can of MSC has been sitting in a box of other crafting supplies with the original seal on it until today. Today was the day for me to try doing a faceup! I used chalk pastels from my high school days some 20 years ago and water color pencils. It’s not until you’re trying to concentrate on fine details that you realize how bad your eyes are getting! Even with my glasses on and under a mag lamp, my eyes kept losing focus. (Note to self: see the eye doctor!)
It took me about 3 hours and several coats of MSC, but I am pleased with the results! :0)

Meet my JID Asa! I was having second thoughts on having purchased her while I was waiting for her to get here, but now that she is complete, I think she’ll stay even though I bought her just to be a model. Her Asian features are growing on me. I may get her some different eyes though, the ones she has in are a bit dark.

Meet my Camille Dynasty Kitty! I won her in a photo contest a couple of months back. She makes the perfect kitty for Asa.

  1. You did a fabulous job on your face up for Asa. She is a very lovely girl! And your kitty is just too cute! I would love to add one of CDs kitties to my resin family one day!

  2. Thank you Deborah! It was an interesting experience and I’m glad that I gave it a whirl. :0) Yes, CD kitties are just too cute and she’s the perfect size for my JID.
