Adventures With Aidin

June 10, 2013

So, last weekend my daughter and I drove my Dad to Washington DC to get his passport renewed. I decided to take Aidin with me for this trip. Poor little guy hasn’t gone on a road trip before.

Aidin: “Aren’t you guys ready yet? Let’s get this show on the road!”
He was a bit impatient to get going.

I ended up doing all the driving there so I didn’t get to take any photos with Aidin while we were travelling. It poured down the rain almost all the way. Then traffic in DC was ridiculous and I really didn’t want to subject my father to driving in it. We finally made it to our hotel. We stayed at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut Ave. It’s beautiful hotel built in the 1920’s. Very art deco style. My daughter got to take all the photos there. Aidin came out of his carrier long enough to take the next couple of photos.

Aidin: “So, where’s the White House?”
Apparently not outside our window… :0/

The not so scenic view from our window. As you can see, it was raining again. This was taken on Friday morning.

We didn’t get to explore much. This was basically a business trip and the weather was threatening to get worse the longer we stayed so we went to the Portuguese Embassy after checking out of our hotel and got out of DC as quickly as we could. We did see the Washington Monument from a distance- it’s still being fixed. We drove over the Potomac River and by the Watergate Building. We also drove down Embassy Row and went around Dupont Circle many times trying to get to where we needed to go. Despite the heavy traffic, everyone was friendly and forgave me my driving faux pas. Or maybe they just realized we were from out of town and decided to give us some slack. ;0)
I ended up driving us all the way back home. My dad had eaten something the day before that hadn’t agreed with him so he slept in the back seat all the way home.
If I ever go back to DC, I don’t think I’d want to drive all over the city. Parking is next to non-existent and the traffic seems to be bad all the time. You really don’t get to see much because you’re so focused on not running over pedestrians or having a wreck! Taxis, a bus ride or simply walking to my destination will make the next trip there a lot less nerve wracking. If there is a next time…
